Hello! I’m Josie and I live in the NYC area in a one-bedroom apartment. I’m here to share the design and construction of my home projects—mostly a journey of learning.

Past

It all started when I convinced my boyfriend (now husband) to build a built-in loft bed in our too-small apartment, and then to renovate our entire kitchen. I went from not even owning a drill, to realizing that I can custom-make everything around the home.

Present

Currently, my husband doesn’t live with me in the home we own (it’s a long story). He will be back in some years but, in the mean time, I have no one but myself to construct everything I want for our home.

Although it’s not easy, the fact that I need to be able to build everything by one person brings an interesting constraint into my designs. It also allows me to grow in the execution aspect. But of course, I also can’t wait for my husband to be back, and for us to tackle projects together.

Philosophy

You’ll likely find my DIY and design philosophy sprinkled in across my content. In short, I like to be inspired by context and to treat interiors as photo compositions. I hate the idea of making dupes of expensive things, and I stay away from popularity-based decisions.

Life

I work full time, am an active professional dance competitor, and I juggle the travel of a long-distance relationship and dance partnership. My home projects are done slowly, more like a neverending marathan than a sprint—and my posts will be few and far between. I hope you join me for the journey ahead!
